St. Martins and the Herald Angels

Our parish church, St. Martins, was designed by the Pre-Raphaelite architect Philip Webb. (The Earl of Carlisle whose seat was at nearby Naworth Castle became friends with the Pre-Raphaelite circle when he was at Oxford.) The stained glass windows were made by Wm. Morris & Co. and designed by Edward Burne-Jones.

I have used two of his angels in this painting, with their heraldic trumpets, to flank this view of the church which formed the basis of a design for a Christmas card.
