stephen warnes biography
Born 1951, N.E. Lancashire, educated and brought up in Accrington.

1969-72, B.A. (Honours) in the Theory and History of Art, Essex University. First in the module on British Romantic Art and Poetry.

Participation in local exhibitions in Cumbria and later Redditch.

1994 Elected full member of the Guild of Railways Artists. Exhibits regularly with them at regional and national galleries.

1997. Public Commission for a ‘Painting to Celebrate the Centenary of the Glasgow Underground’. Artist in Residence day at the Strathclyde Passenger Transport Engineering works in Govan. Painting now displayed in the Kelvinbridge Transport Museum in the city.

1997. ‘Citadel 150’ and other works exhibited at Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery, Carlisle, alongside works by Terence Cuneo and photographs by Eric Treacy for the ‘Making Tracks’ exhibition celebrating the 150th anniversary of Carlisle Citadel station.

1999. Retrospective exhibition ‘ A Life in the Day’ at the Upfront Gallery,Hutton-in-the-Forest, Penrith.

2004. ‘Trevithick 200’ exhibited at the National Railway Museum in York as part of a major exhibition which marked the 200th anniversary of the first successful steam locomotive.

2006 ‘Deep Roots’ exhibition, Blackburn Museum & Art Gallery.

2006 'Smile Boys, That's the Style' exhibited at Haworth Art Gallery, Accrington in exhibition commemorating 90th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme.

2008 'A Long Way Down the Line' Exhibition, Upfront Gallery, Hutton-in-the-Forest, Penrith.
